Welcome to my buttery blog!

I am Ben – a 32 year-old Australian guy who’s interested in all sorts of things. I originally set up this site to document my baking adventures at The School of Artisan Food in England during 2011 and 2012, but that was a while ago now.

I’ve given the site a bit of an overhaul in the hope that it will motivate me to use it again.

  1. I was looking up custard tarts and I found you. I’m going to be busy studying your site. Actually you being from Oz might be able to help with my question.
    No matter what bakery I go to, anywhere, the pies will be different but custard tarts are all identical. Are these the same because they are mass produced in a factory and bought by bakeries ??? They all taste the same, look the same anywhere in the country!!

  2. One more thing, I am From Oz. And speaking of our bakeries, The greatest plain pie I have ever eaten in my life is from the Paynesville Bakery in East Gippsland Victoria. The business is for sale now. I wonder if the plain pie recipe is for sale. Its probably worth a million dollars more than the business.
